04 Jun 2020

The government is in the process of introducing medical coverage and a pension scheme for the self-employed, Minister for Labour and Professional Integration Mohamed Amekraz has announced.

In his presentation to the Committee on Public Finance Control in the House of Representatives, about the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), Mr Amekraz said that the project targets more than 5m self-employed people, in addition to their beneficiaries, which will allow a total of nearly 11m Moroccans to benefit from the scheme, reported Infomediaire.

Other media reports say that the leaders of the chambers of commerce of the 12 provinces or regions of Morocco have met Industry Minister Moulay Hafid Elalamy to discuss the health and retirement insurance scheme.

The medical insurance will cover three categories of people: those subject to the flat-rate regime, non-taxable persons and the self-employed.
