Oman:Insurers record over 23,000 traffic accidents in 1Q

The total number of traffic accidents in Oman in the first quarter of this year was 23,800, including 4,100 major accidents and 19,700 minor accidents, according to unaudited quarterly insurance sector statements.

Compensation paid by insurance companies for damage resulting from minor traffic accidents decreased by 26% to OMR4.7m ($122m) whereas claims paid out in respect of major traffic accidents soared by more than 300% to OMR2.45m.

The data show that the number of insurance claims related to deaths in motor accidents increased by 6% to 145, reported Times of Oman.

The number of claims for minor accidents grew by 9% in 1Q2020, compared to the same period in 2019, when it was more than 20,400. The number of claims reported for major accidents was 4,224, growing by 11%.
