Oman:Number of motor insurance policies rise to 1.5m in 2018

The number of vehicle insurance policies registered in 2018 in Oman increased by 7.4% compared to the previous year.

According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), 1.5mn vehicle insurance policies were registered in 2018, reported Muscat Daily.

Meanwhile, total new vehicle registrations in the sultanate stood at 6,935 in June 2018, down by 8.2%. This did not include vehicles that were re-exported or given temporary registrations.

The statistics slso show that private vehicles, rent-a-car companies and taxis witnessed a fall in new registrations in June 2018.

Private vehicle registrations declined by 12% to 5,390, while registrations of commercial vehicles surged by 27.5% to 1,142 in June 2018.

In 2017, vehicle registrations stood at 78,205, which included 58,596 private cars.
