Singapore:14th SIRC to explore theme of "New Partnerships in Reinsurance"

16 Feb 2017

With the world of risk becoming increasingly more complex, the 14th Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) will explore the theme of "New Partnerships in Reinsurance" from a variety of different angles including not only, the traditional relationships between cedents, reinsurance brokers, reinsurers, risk managers, regulators and government but, also technologies, social media and the Internet of Things. The 14th SIRC, to be held from 31 October to 2 November 2017 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands for the fourth time, will have Mr Ulrich Wallin, Chairman & CEO of Hannover Re, making his maiden appearance as the conference keynote speaker.

The SIRC, which will be an annual event with effect from this year, has become the ideal platform for insurers, brokers and reinsurers to take stock of the reinsurance market and set the tone for the renewal season while exploring new avenues for business co-operation.

The event will provide three days of high level networking and co-operation opportunities, with the Lloyd’s Coffee House serving as the integral core of the event where all interested parties meet under one roof. There will be a formal opening ceremony with two thought-provoking interactive sessions – the first is a High-Level Executive Panel on “Reinsurance: Responsibilities & Opportunities in the New World Disorder”, while the second is a Panel on “The Future of Reinsurance – A View from the Outside” with panelists drawn from technologists, futurists, primary insurers and a life reinsurer.

The SIRC now in its 14th edition has become a must-attend event with the demand to go annual finally kicking off with effect from this year. The last SIRC in 2015 attracted 996 registered delegates from nearly 50 countries and has a definite committed following along with a pool of some 70 loyal sponsors and exhibitors.

The Conference, organised by Singapore Reinsurers’ Association in conjunction with the Reinsurance Brokers’ Association of Singapore and the Singapore College of Insurance, as well as Asia Insurance Review as the official media partner, will draw key decision makers and high-level executives from the insurance, reinsurance, regulatory and broking fraternities as well as service providers to the insurance industry.

Mr Sivam Subramaniam, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said: “The SIRC is entrenched as a “must attend” event because of its abundant networking and business-generating opportunities. It is the premier event to attend and to be seen at in doing reinsurance business in Asia.”

Mr Marc Haushofer, Chairman of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association, said: “We want to make the SIRC the key reinsurance event of the year that people attend to not only network but also to have unique take-aways, too. The meeting of so many reinsurance experts under one roof is designed to inspire and share their vision with the objective to prime our industry for the enormous tasks lying ahead of us.”

Mr Richard Austen, Chairman of Reinsurance Brokers’ Association of Singapore, said: “The SIRC plays a vital role in the lead-up to the renewals. It brings kudos to Singapore as a reinsurance hub of Asia and the amount of business done at these meetings is amazing. In this new competitive and disruptive era in the world of insurance and reinsurance, the 14th SIRC is an event 'not to be missed'.”
