Tunisia: Insurance market grew by 8% to $429m in 1H18

The turnover of the insurance market in Tunisia grew by almost 8% in the first half of 2018 with premiums reaching TND1.25bn ($428.7m) compared to TND1.16bn during the corresponding period last year.
The life segment contributed 20.4% of the turnover, while general insurance dominated the business with a market share of 79.6%, according to WebmanagerCentre, citing data from the General Insurance Committee (CGA).
Claims paid during the first half of this year increased by 15% to TND556m, compared with the same period in 2017.
In addition, the share of motor insurance reached more than 44% followed by the various risk insurance with 21.6% and fire insurance (9.4%).
The increase in compensation payouts is seen in particular in motor business. Motor insurance accounted for more than 52% of total compensation in the first six months of this year. M
