Aetna International appoints CEO for newly formed EMEA region
Following a strategic decision to merge its European and Middle East & Africa divisions, Aetna International has appointed Mr David Healy as CEO of the newly created Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
He will be based at the regional headquarters in the UAE and will be responsible for all Aetna International markets across EMEA.
Serving more than 900,000 members worldwide, Mr Healy will now lead Aetna’s expansion of international business across EMEA, which includes international health benefits and health management solutions.
He will be supported by a multi-cultural team of over 500 people across EMEA and will be responsible for working closely with Aetna’s strategic partners, governments and health officials to provide empowering health management solutions across the region.
With over 30 years of experience in the International Insurance and Employee Benefits industries, Mr Healy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. He joined Aetna in 2012 and previously held the position of GM for Europe and VP Head of Global Operations.
Before joining Aetna, Mr Healy worked for AEGON Ireland, the cross-border arm of AEGON, where he served as Managing Director for life, investment and variable annuity products in Europe.
His insurance career began in 1987 with operational roles in Ireland. He joined J Rothschild International in 1993 to help launch its international operations from Dublin. In 1995, he joined the cross-border life assurance company Scottish Equitable International in Luxembourg at its start-up, becoming Managing Director in 1997.
RSA welcomes commercial director for Europe
RSA has appointed Mr Jeroen den Tex as Commercial Director, Europe, responsible for developing the sales, marketing and distribution strategy across RSA’s five European operations, Nordic Hull and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
In this newly created role, Mr den Tex heads the commercial teams for these seven territories and manages head office relationships with major global brokers. He reports to Mr Owen Thomas, Sales & Distribution Director, Global Risk Solutions (GRS), and joins the European leadership team, led by GRS Europe director, Mr Richard Turner.
Mr den Tex spent the past five years at Aon Inpoint where he was Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, responsible for global carrier relationships, as well as being global strategic marketing director.
He will continue to be based in the Netherlands.
Qatar Re Chief Executive of its Singapore branch
Qatar Reinsurance Company Limited (Qatar Re) has appointed Mr Manik Sethi as Chief Executive of its Singapore branch, effective 13 November 2017. He succeeds Mr Micky Lee who has decided to pursue other opportunities outside of the company.
Mr Sethi has over 11 years of underwriting experience gained from working in various multinational insurers and reinsurers, including Zurich Insurance (Middle East) and RSA (Middle East). He joined Qatar Re in May 2016, initially as Regional Head of Facultative Marine and later as the team’s Global Head. His skillset spans both facultative and treaty business.
UAE: ADNIC names Senior Vice President for Risk Management
Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC) has strengthened its executive management team with the appointment of Mr Ali Shaukat as Senior Vice President for Risk Management.
With more than 28 years’ experience, in-depth industry knowledge and technical skills across various industries in Canada, Middle East, and Pakistan, Mr Shaukat will play in a lead role in ADNIC’s ongoing business expansion. His responsibilities will include directing and overseeing the development of ADNIC’s risk framework and practices.
Mr Shaukat joins ADNIC from Deloitte and Touche in Saudi Arabia, where he held the position of Senior Technical Advisor for Risk Advisory. He had also worked at SABB Takaful in Riyadh, where he held the position of Chief Risk Officer. Prior to that he was the Regional Chief Risk Officer at HSBC Insurance.
He had also worked with a number of companies in Toronto in Canada in various roles, including Senior Manager for Enterprise Risk Management at Deloitte and Touche and Manager Reinsurance at Liberty International Underwriters.
UAE: Management change at Takaful Emarat
Takaful Emarat said that its CEO Wael Al-Sharif has been appointed to a new strategic Board Advisory role. Mr Mohammad Alhawari, who is currently an Executive Board Director and Managing Director, will oversee day-to-day company operations pending a new CEO appointment.
Mr Al Hawari, who has been with Takaful Emarat since 2015, is a seasoned commercial executive and brings a wealth of multinational experience. Previously he held senior management roles at Citibank, Dubai Holdings and most recently at Mubadala- GE Capital.
UAE: Fenchurch Faris appoints COO
Fenchurch Faris Ltd has appointed Mr Zayd B Faris to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) as of 1 November 2017. His experience and leadership will help develop and consolidate the company’s reach and scope.
Mr Faris had previously worked at NBK Capital, and his combined insurance experience includes seven years at Fenchurch Faris in Abu Dhabi and Heath Lambert Group in London.
