Tunisia: Takaful contributions grew 10% in 2020

Takaful gross contributions in Tunisia grew by 10% to TND130.6m ($46.2m) in 2020 compared to TND118m in the preceding year, according to an annual report issued by the country’s regulatory authority, the Comite’ General des Assurances (CGA) last month.

Development of takaful contributions outstripped the market’s GWP growth which grew by 6.5% to TND2.57bn in 2020 against TND2.4bn in 2019.

Gross written contributions accounted for around 5% of the market GWP in 2020, almost the same percentage achieved in 2019. Gross paid claims for takaful operations reached TND130.6m in 2020, accounting for 9.7% of the market’s TND1.35bn paid claims.

There are three takaful providers in Tunisia including Zitouna Takaful, El Amana Takaful and Attakafulia. The three operators offer general and family takaful products. M
