Saudi Arabia: Government starts insuring state-owned vehicles
Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Jan 2020
Several ministries and government departments have begun to insure their fleet of vehicles after years of deliberation on the issue.
The comprehensive coverage includes physical damage as well as personal injury or death (that is, including blood money) to third parties in the event of an accident, reported Al-Madina. The maximum insured sum is SAR10m (SAR2.7m).
The insurer is obliged upon receiving any claim to provide the applicant with an acknowledgement stating that the claim has been received and informing him of any deficiencies within seven days of receiving it.
The insurer is also obliged to settle the amount of the claim determined by the General Traffic Department or by Najm Insurance Services Company or authorised entities, without any bargaining, within a maximum period of 15 days from the date of receipt of all documents submitted to support the claims.
