Turkey: Agricultural pool expects premiums to reach $466 mln by end-2017

Tarsim, Turkey’s agricultural insurance pool, expects its premium volume to increase to TRY1.7 billion (US$466 million) by the end of the year, from TRY1.5 billion at present.
Mr Yusuf Cemil Satoglu, Tarsim’s Director General, said the pool currently covers 1.5 million policies with the total insured agricultural area exceeding 22 million decares and insured agricultural properties amounting to TRY25 billion.
Speaking at a recent forum, he said that expected increase in the incidences of natural disasters in the future and changes in weather conditions will make agricultural insurance more important.
At the forum, calls were also made for insurance awareness to be more widespread in Turkey. M
