Global:Lancashire announces senior management changes

Senior management changes at Lancashire Syndicates and Lancashire Insurance Company include the retirements of Mr John Spence from his role as CEO of Lancashire Syndicates and Ms Hayley Johnston, CEO of Lancashire Insurance Company during 1Q2026.

  • Ms Jennifer Wilson, currently group financial planning and analysis director, will succeed Ms Johnston in Bermuda.
  • Ms Rachel Sabbarton, currently CUO of Lancashire Insurance Company (UK), will succeed Mr Spence.

Both appointments are effective 1Q2026 and subject to relevant regulatory approvals.

Ms Wilson joined Lancashire in 2010 as a project accountant, progressing from financial planning and analysis manager to head of financial planning and analysis and Lancashire Insurance Company CFO in 2014. In May 2024, she was appointed group financial planning and analysis director, a role she will also retain.

Ms Sabbarton joined Lancashire as group head of marine, energy and specialty insurance. She was promoted to CUO of Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) in April 2025. In addition to duties from her new role, she will also retain oversight of marine, energy and specialty insurance classes.

Other appointments are:

  • Mr Matthew Thomas will succeed Ms Sabbarton as CUO, Lancashire Insurance Company (UK), while also remaining active underwriter and CUO of the Lancashire syndicates, effective 1Q2026 and subject to relevant regulatory approvals.
  • Ms Colette Murphy has been appointed deputy CUO for Lancashire Insurance Company (UK). Ms Murphy will also take on the role of group head of property D&F, replacing Mr Matthew Narbett following his recent promotion to deputy group CUO.
  • Mr Tom Sutton has been appointed deputy active underwriter for Syndicate 2010.
  • Mr David Chalk has been appointed deputy active underwriter for Syndicate 3010.

Mr Sutton and Mr Chalk will also continue in their current roles in the treaty and construction teams respectively.

Mr Jon Barnes will take on Ms Johnston’s responsibilities as reinsurance manager as part of his current role as group underwriting director.
