The Capital Market Authority (CMA), which oversees the insurance industry, is looking at installing an electronic system that will link insurers and private health institutions and, in turn, link these to regulatory agencies such as the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the CMA.
The goal is to maintain fair prices and overcome problems involving claims and reimbursements in matters related to the country’s mandatory health insurance scheme which is scheduled to be launched this year.
The electronic system will create an interactive database that will use medical coding techniques and the ‘diagnosis related group’ classification system, according to a proposal before the CMA.
Meanwhile, the CMA has held its third meeting to discuss the progress of the mandatory health insurance scheme for all private sector employees. Mr Ahmed Ali Al Mamari, head of the health insurance project team, discussed the project’s current status and its implementation phases.
During the meeting, the team approved the formation of a committee to oversee disputes and complaints relating to health insurance. They also discussed the implementation phases for the scheme which will not include small- and medium-sized firms in its initial stages. M
