Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Dec 2018
Parts of the MENA region are safer by a range of measures than some more popular holiday destinations, according to data sources collated by Which?, a major independent consumer body in the UK.
Jordan has a lower risk of crime than France, Italy, the US and Thailand. Morocco has less crime and a lower risk of terrorism than most of Europe and the US. Neither country has high risk of natural disaster or significant health risks.
Which? ranked 20 of the most popular destinations around the world for their safety based on factors like crime rates, the likelihood of terrorist attacks, natural disasters and health concerns.
The consumer body viewed statistics produced by the World Economic Fund, for crime rates, the World Risk Report, for likelihood of major natural disasters, the NHSFit for Travel website for health risks, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s assessment of terrorism risk levels.
Of the 20 holiday destinations that Which? looked at, Iceland emerged as the safest country. The UAE and Singapore were also considered extremely safe, followed by Spain. The worst rated were South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, India and Mexico. M
