UAE: IA plans mandatory liability insurance for engineers & doctors

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Sep 2018

The UAE Insurance Authority (IA) is planning to introduce two compulsory insurance lines: medical malpractice insurance for doctors and decennial liability insurance for contractors and engineers.

The introduction of these two lines will be either in 2018 or early next year. The regulator will develop legislation to effect its plan, reported Al Khaleej citing industry sources.

The sources also mentioned that the IA will set out the legal framework for electronic linking with insurers. This could lead to a reduction in the number of customer complaints, especially with regard to vehicle accidents and compensation.

The Authority is keen to increase the contribution of the insurance sector to the economy by providing the appropriate environment for the sector’s development and to increase the performance and efficiency of insurance companies and associated professions. M
