Oman: Regulator warns drivers against crossing flooded wadis

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Sep 2018

The Capital Market Authority (CMA) has warned that insurance cover would be nullified if drivers are caught trying to cross flooded wadis.

The regulator called on motorists to abide by safety and security rules during rains and floods to preserve lives and properties.

The CMA has emphasised that the Unified Motor Vehicles Insurance Policy insists that the policyholder must take all reasonable precautions to preserve the vehicle and not take risk by crossing flooded wadis, reported Muscat Daily.

“Crossing of wadis and failure to abide by the instructions of ROP (Royal Oman Police) would nullify the rights of the policyholder for compensation if it is proven the damage to the vehicle is caused by an intentional act of the driver,” the Authority cautioned. The announcement came as Oman witnessed rains in several wilayats (provinces) recently.

The ROP has said that injuries often occur when people try to cross wadis in adverse weather conditions, and warned that those found guilty of such behaviour would face strict legal action. M
