MENA: FAIR explores creating P&I club

The Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers & Reinsurers (FAIR) is studying the feasibility of establishing a P&I club.

Dr Adel Mounir, FAIR secretary-general said the P&I club will serve the Arab countries and the African continent.

He said the proposal will need the support of the Suez Canal Authority and the Arab Maritime Academy, in order to facilitate talks with shipowners, according to a report in Al Mal News.

A number of study tours are planned to some major markets, including India, China, Hong Kong and Japan, said Dr Mounir. In addition, a study will be made of the proposed location of the club, with Cairo being a favourite candidate. M
