Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Apr 2018

The Health Ministry has unveiled a plan to reform the health sector for the period 2018-2022 that would include the establishment of an independent health insurance body.

The plan has seven major aspects, including primary healthcare, secondary healthcare, health insurance, pharmaceuticals, medical tourism, reliability, quality control and e-health, reported the Jordan News Agency, citing a statement by Health Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab.

The plan entails 131 projects and initiatives worth JOD602.1 million (US$849.2 million) which will be covered by funds allocated for the sector in the Budget, grants and loans.

The health insurance aspect of the plan entails projects and initiatives at a cost of almost JOD110 million, including restructuring existing health insurance formats to increase their efficiency and creating an independent health insurance body that would serve as an umbrella for health insurance funds.

Mr Sheyyab also pointed out that the plan aims to improve the quality and safety of healthcare services, monitoring and controlling communicable diseases, reducing the spread of non-communicable diseases, developing human resources, as well as enhancing the healthcare infrastructure and quality control of pharmaceuticals. M
