Nine in 10 motorcycles, numbering around two million, that travel on the roads in Tunisia are uninsured, according to the Executive Director of the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA) Kamel Chibani.
He said that motorcycles, of different sizes and power, have contributed to the increase in fatal accidents and bodily injuries. He added that efforts have been made by the Federation since 2016 to get motorcyclists to purchase insurance, reported Tunis Africa Press.
The rate of losses of insurers due to uninsured motorcycles was 400%, translating to a compensation of TND400 (US$162.4) made for every TND100 of insurance premiums, according to Mr Chibani.
He said that FTUSA and the General Insurance Authority had decided to cooperate on an expert study, aimed at proposing a diagnostic system for motorcycles, covering the type of motorcycle, sellers, and purchase contract, etc. M
