The Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA) is considering setting up an organisation to fight insurance fraud, according to the insurance body’s Executive Director, Mr Kamel Chibani.
Speaking at a recent seminar, he said that the organisation in question would be an agency whose mission is to investigate fraud in the insurance field, including suspicious accidents, according to Emerging Maghreb.
The idea had been voiced in mid-2015 by insurance industry stakeholders who advocated establishing an agency to combat fraud, that would be similar to ALFA (Agence pour la Lutte contre la Fraude a l’Assurance) in France.
Insurance fraud is estimated at around TND150 million (US$60.9 million) annually.
Most fraud cases occur in auto insurance. In addition, agriculture is one of the sectors most exposed to fraud through false claims for fire, livestock and life insurance, according to the President of the Tunisian Association of Insurance Law (ATDA), Mr Abdellatif Mamoghli. M
