Source: Middle East Insurance Review | May 2016

Mr Hammam M Badr, Chairman and Managing Director of ISKAN Insurance has joined the exclusive MENA Insurance CEO Club (MICC) as the Club’s 24th member and its first member from Egypt.

An MICC spokesperson said: “Mr Badr is an industry veteran with valuable experience in international (re)insurance markets. In addition, he has experience leading the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR) as its former Secretary General. We are confident that the MICC will gain from his contributions towards the Club’s mission of serving as a think tank to shape and spearhead the future development of the regional insurance industry.”

Mr Badr has nearly 40 years’ experience in insurance and reinsurance, both in the domestic and international markets. After joining Egypt Re in Cairo in 1976, he was responsible for its London contact office between 1978 and 1985. He was the Acting General Manager of the Egyptian Nuclear Insurance Pool between 1986 and 1988 before moving to ARIG in Bahrain and in London. He then joined Guy Carpenter in New York in 1993.

Mr Badr returned to Egypt in early 2001 to take on the post of Chairman and Managing Director of Egypt Re. During his term, he successfully re-engineered the company to become an active and respected reinsurer in the region, and built up a highly professional reinsurance underwriting team. He was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Al-Chark Insurance in 2004, until its merger with Misr Insurance in 2007.

Besides heading ISKAN Insurance, he is a member of the Board of Directors of real estate company Ta’meer, and Data and Transaction Services (DTS).

The MICC was set up in 2010 as a by-invitation-only Club by pro-active leaders in the industry, with the vision to become the mouthpiece of and think tank for the MENA insurance industry. The Club is led by the Steering Committee consisting of Dr Bassel Hindawi, Chairman/CEO of the DIFC Insurance Association; Mr Yassir Albaharna, CEO of ARIG; and Mr Sivam Subramaniam, Editor-in-Chief of MEIR and Asia Insurance Review (AIR).
