The Traffic Department is extending its online reporting network to more insurance companies to allow more motorists to benefit from the service.
The Department recently signed agreements with many insurers which provide auto cover to set up the online link, reported The Peninsula newspaper. At present, the online link is established with Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) and Beema Insurance Company.
The online system allows motorists involved in traffic accidents to complete insurance formalities without the need to go to the Department’s services centres. Insurance companies will receive online messages from the Department with the vehicle number, accident number and damage.
The Department has opened traffic investigation offices in these insurance companies to complete procedures related to car repairs following accidents.
The service, however, is restricted to accidents where there is no dispute between the parties involved.
Major Hammam Majli Almas, Head of the Traffic Investigation Section in Medinat Khalifa, said that although the service is available, people still insist on going to the Department to report accidents. “The service will be accepted by more people when they become aware of its advantages,” he said.
There are 14 insurance companies, including health insurers, operating in the Qatari domestic insurance market.
