Stressed? Here are some apps to help you relax

Working in sales as an agent or adviser can be a very intense experience. The highs of success (getting your prospects to buy products and closing big deals) can quickly be followed by the lows of rejection--no prospects are willing to meet up with you and you just can't seem to catch a break. If you allow your mood and demeanour to be dictated by your professional life, there is a good chance that your emotions are in roller coaster mode, leading to stress.This in turn is not conducive to your professional and personal life. In an article by Aja Frost on marketing firm Hubspot's sales blog, she highlights some apps which allow salespeople to achieve relaxation, manage their emotions and be more mindful.

1) Ananda

Billing itself as “your personal sound sanctuary,” Ananda offers a soothing background for multiple activities, including conscious thinking, power napping, relaxing, learning and memorizing, and more. The app creates a custom blend of sounds each time, so you won’t get bored.

2) Calm

This app allows you try out meditation by giving you access to meditation sessions with both guided and unguided programmes.

The streak feature -- which tracks how many days in a row you’ve meditated -- helps you to stay motivated and focused on your meditation programme.

3) PAUSE

Available on: iOS | Android

This app utilises cognitive science principles to help you achieve calmness and focus on the present moment.

The app works by prompting you to slowly trace floating blobs across your phone screen with your finger. This will trigger your minds "rest and digest" response.

4) Essence

Available on: iOS

This is a breathing app that provides a quick, easy way to inject some calm into your day, while displaying a sphere that expands and contracts in time with your breath. It’s based on the 4-7-8 breathing technique: Inhale through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, then exhale through your mouth for eight seconds.

5) Colorfy

Colorfy is an app that allows you to utilise Art Therapy in line with the current popularity of adult colouring books. There are more than 1000 different pictures and a vast array of different colors, brush styles and gradients to choose from. The therepeautic, repetitive nature of coloring the different pictures will allow you to soothe your mind.

6) Personal Zen

This game requires you to trace the path of a friendly sprite with your finger as he moves across the grass. As simple as this sounds, it’s clinically proven to put you at ease.

7) Happify

Available on: iOS | Android

Happify is an app that in its own words, “utilises science-based happiness games and activities to turn the latest innovations in the science of happiness into games that help you lead a more fulfilling life”.

The app is easy and enjoyable to use. Simply complete a few activities (quizzes, games, and exercises) each week. Apparently statistics show that 86% of users say they are noticeably happier two months after downloading this app!

8) Headspace

A subscription gives you access to an ever-growing library of meditation tracks. Themes include becoming more patient, improving your focus, managing anxiety, improving sleep quality, and much more. Each session is only 10 minutes long and easy to fit into your routine.

9) Aura

This app provides three-minute meditation session can be customized to your mood. Track your emotions and mindfulness over time to help the app create an AI-based meditation program suited to your needs. The app also offers reminders throughout the day to take a deep breath and record small things they’re grateful for.

10) Insight Timer

Available on: iOS | Android

More than 1.4 million people use Insight Timer, making it the most popular free meditation app for iOS. It has 3,500 guided meditations and 500 music soundtracks -- so you’ll always have plenty of choices.

11) SAM

Available on: iOS | Android

This app is created by a research team from the University of the West of England, Bristol, to help people understand and manage their anxiety. It allows you to track your emotions and pinpoint exactly how you’re feeling, go through various exercises scientifically proven to reduce anxiety, and create a personalized toolkit for coping. SAM also gives you access to an anonymous social network. It can be beneficial to talk to others who are in the same boat and share tips.

12) Worry Watch

For the worrywarts, this app allows you to log the various triggers for your stress and categorise them. The app checks in later to see if the outcome turned out to be as dire as you anticipated. It also keeps track of the parts of your life causing the most worry. Once you have data-backed insights into your concerns, you’ll find it easier to stay calm and maintain perspective.

13) Pacifica

This app is an all rounded health tool that allows you to monitor your mood throughout the day. It allows you to identify unrealistic and harmful thoughts, record your goals progress and track activities such as sleep patterns, exercise habits and caffeine intake. There are many relaxation exercises such as breathing sessions, progressive muscle relaxation and guided meditations

Now you have no reason to fear or feel stress just prior to meetings and presentations with your prospect! Your mobile phone is all you need to find that calm.
