Kenya: Britam launches COVID-19 cover for ride-hailing passengers
British-American Insurance Company (Britam) has launched a COVID-19 insurance cover for ride-hailing firm Little’s passengers in Kenya, reported Business Daily Africa.

To get coverage under this COVID-19 insurance, passengers will need to pay KES10 ($0.09) per trip for a personal accident policy which provides up to KES150,000 coverage.

If a passenger tests positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of the last trip, Britam will provide the rider with home-based care through its telemedicine services which comprise the provision of medical kits and essential medicine, teleconsultations with a doctor and nurse, and nutritionist and mental health consultation.

“Now as the economy reopens, we want to build on our digital experience and expand healthcare support to these customers by providing them with access to homecare treatment in case of COVID-19,” said Britam group managing director Benson Wairegi.

As COVID-19 numbers rapidly rise, the health ministry in Kenya has pushed for home-based care for asymptomatic patients.

Morocco: National carrier provides free COVID-19 insurance
Morocco’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc is offering free COVID-19 insurance policies for passengers who have purchased standard tickets for international flights between 1 December and 31 May 2021, reported Morocco World News.

The insurance provides international coverage of up to EUR150,000 ($181,337) and will cover passengers as soon as they board and last for a maximum travel period of 31 days.

The insurance provides coverage for certain medical expenses related to COVID-19 treatment as well as accommodation costs for compulsory quarantine at a rate of up to EUR100 per day for a maximum of 14 days. It also covers repatriation of COVID-19 patients in the event of death due to the novel coronavirus.

However, the free insurance policy does not cover the cost of PCR tests.

At the time of check-in, Royal Air Maroc requires its passengers to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test whose sample was collected less than 72 hours prior.

The latest COVID-19-related measures are in line with Morocco’s preventive actions to curb the spread of COVID-19. The measures exempt children under the age of 11, who do not need testing to fly with Royal Air Maroc.

UAE: Emirates offers additional pandemic coverage
With the COVID-19 pandemic raging on, Emirates is expanding its multi-risk travel insurance policy which is ‘designed to provide all passengers a truly unique offer for stress-free and hassle-free travel’.

The travel insurance package, underwritten by AIG, covers out-of-country emergency medical expenses and emergency medical evacuation up to $500,000, valid for COVID-19 (contracted during the trip) and other medical emergencies while travelling abroad.

This expanded coverage will automatically apply to all tickets purchased from 1 December and also extends to Emirates codeshare flights operated by partner airlines as long as the ticket number starts with 176.

“Emirates was the first airline to offer complimentary global COVID-19 cover for travellers back in July, and the response from our customers has been tremendously encouraging. We see a strong appetite for travel around the world, especially heading into the winter holidays as people seek warmer climates and family destinations like Dubai,” said Emirates chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum in a statement.

UAE: Budget airline extends free multi-risk travel insurance
Government-owned budget airline flydubai will provide passengers with a new multi-risk travel insurance which will be automatically applied to all passengers purchasing a ticket from 1 December.

Passengers who purchase a flydubai ticket will automatically receive the new multi-risk insurance, provided by AIG Travel, at no additional cost.

The policy, which also provides COVID-19 coverage, covers both return and one-way trips outside of a passenger’s country of residence.

The policy will offer passengers more confidence to travel knowing that they will be looked after at every step of their journey, said flydubai chief commercial officer Hamad Obaidalla, adding that he expects the demand for travel to increase during the winter holiday season.

The policy covers up to $500,000 in overseas medical expenses and emergency evacuations for COVID-19 and other medical emergencies while travelling abroad. M
