ArgoGlobal appoints CUO for EMEA
ArgoGlobal has announced the appointment of Mr Alfredo Alonso as chief underwriting officer (CUO) for Europe, Middle East and Asia. Mr Alonso took up his London-based role in March. He reports to Mr Matt Harris, group head of International Operations.
 
Mr Alonso brings 30 years of industry experience to ArgoGlobal. He joins the company from RSA where, for the last seven years, he served in a number of CUO roles in emerging markets, serving most recently as group casualty director. 
 
He began his career working for Winterthur Insurance (now a member of the AXA Group) in its claims department, before joining Winterthur International as a senior casualty underwriter. He went on to work at Zurich Financial Services, where he served for 12 years in various underwriting roles, including head of technical centre for commercial lines in Switzerland, head of casualty for Europe, and CUO for Middle East and Africa.

PartnerRe reorganises P&C unit with new appointment
PartnerRe has announced that it will reorganise the structure of its P&C business segment, taking a regionally focused approach and hiring new executive leaders for each region. As part of this organisational structure, its CEO P&C Charles Goldie is set to leave the firm. 
 
Its deputy CEO P&C Philippe Meyenhofer will take on the responsibility for PartnerRe’s EMEA regional unit. Mr Meyenhofer joined the company in 2010 and has held a range of leadership positions since, becoming leader for P&C Europe in 2016 and deputy CEO P&C in December 2018.

Oman: Fenchurch Faris promotes deputy GM
Mr Viswanathan Vengara has been promoted to general manager of Fenchurch Faris Insurance Services LLC in Muscat, Oman effective 1 April. He was previously the deputy general manager. 
 
Mr Vengara brings over 20 years of insurance and financial services experience, having held leadership positions at some of the most reputed insurance brokers in Oman. His work experience includes working for the largest of the BFSI companies in India, namely Kotak Mahindra, AIG & Reliance.  

UAE: BSA strengthens insurance team with new senior associate
BSA Ahmad Bin Hazeem & Associates LLP has appointed Mr Anand Singh as senior associate in the insurance & reinsurance practice based in the firm’s DIFC office. Mr Singh has over eight years of experience as a corporate insurance and regulatory lawyer, having practiced in India and across the Middle East. 
 
He has extensive experience in advising insurers, reinsurers, insurance brokers and agents across multiple jurisdictions on incorporation, distribution strategy, regulatory, compliance and other advisory matters. Having worked across jurisdictions, he is able to provide cross-jurisdictional advice to financial services clients who have a global footprint.
 
Mr Singh joins BSA from Kennedys Dubai, where he was an associate in the corporate and insurance team for over four years, prior to which he was a senior associate in Tuli & Co in India, an associate firm of Kennedys. He was recently recognised by the India Business Law Journal as one of the go-to lawyers for India-related transactions.

UAE: WTW welcomes new head of power and utilities for CEEMEA
Willis Towers Watson has welcomed Mr Mark Hiles into the role of head of power and utilities for the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) region. 
 
He is responsible for developing client solutions and driving business growth in the power and utilities sectors across a large and diverse region, aligning local demands with the company’s global strategy in these crucial sectors, which are part of its global natural resources business.
 
Mr Hiles is based in Dubai, where he has lived for six years. He is acting as a wholesale broker working in conjunction with Willis Towers Watson’s retail network and partners.
 
He joins from Bowring Marsh, where his most recent post was head of specialty for power and utilities in the Middle East and Africa. During his 15-year career in the insurance marketplace, Mr Hiles has worked as an underwriter and a placing broker, as well as operating in both the retail and wholesale sectors.
 
He has proven expertise in placing risks for all major types of power and utilities companies, including coal, gas, hydro, nuclear, oil, wind and solar.
