India:General insurance industry crosses INR1 lakh crore mark

The general insurance sector in India has for the first time crossed the INR1 lakh crore (US$14.9 billion) mark in gross direct premium. Riding on this trend, industry sources are hopeful of closing the books for FY2016-17 on 31 March with a gross premium income of INR 1.2 lakh crore.
