  1.  Malaysia: Danajamin provides first financial guarantee insurance for sukuk
    Danajamin Nasional has become the first financial guarantee insurer to provide an Islamic guarantee (Al-Kafalah) for sukuk, with the issuance of the first Danajamin-guaranteed sukuk programme.
 
  2.  Qatar: QIIC posts QAR30.1mln 1H net profit
    Qatar Islamic Insurance Company (QIIC) has posted a net profit of QAR30.1 million (US$8.2 million) in the first half of this year compared to QAR18.1 million in the last corresponding period, registering 66% growth year-on-year.
 
  3.  Kuwait: IIG defaults on US$152.5mln sukuk
    Kuwait's International Investment Group (IIG) said it was unable to make a US$152.5 million sukuk payment, its second default this year, and has named KPMG as its advisor to look at restructuring options.

  1.  Tunisian insurance industry grew 7% in 2009
    Preliminary results for 2009 show that gross written premiums in Tunisia rose 7.25% to TND1,032 million (US$702 million), while claims paid increased 12% to TND568 million, said the Federation Tunisienne des Societes d'Assurances (FTUSA).
 
  2.  Tunisia: Mutual insurers mull over forming joint life company
    Tunisia's four mutual insurers - Caisse Tunisienne de Assurances Mutuelles Agricoles (CTAMA), Groupe des Assurances Mutuelles (MGA), Assurances Mutuelles Ittihad (AMI) and Mutuelle Assurance de l'Enseignement - are considering the possibility of creating a joint life insurance company.
 
  3.  Bahrain: Arig's premiums grew 9% to US$177 mln in 1H10
    Arig's gross premium written increased by 8.6% to US$177.1 million for the first half of 2010, compared to $163 million in the same period last year. Its non-life combined ratio was 97.3%.
