FM Global makes leadership moves in EMEA/Asia Pacific 
FM Global, a leading commercial property insurer, has appointed Mr Stefano Tranquillo as Senior Vice President, Division Manager, EMEA/Asia Pacific. He will be based at FM Global’s Luxembourg office. 
 
   Previously, Mr Tranquillo was Senior Vice President, Division Manager, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Before that, he was Vice President and Manager of FM Global’s Northern Europe operations. His tenure with the company has included posts in Brazil, Italy and the UK.
 
   Since joining FM Global in 1984 as a loss prevention engineer, Mr Tranquillo has worked in numerous roles, including engineering, underwriting and management. 

 
Allianz Worldwide Care names Head of Sales for Middle East & Africa
Ms Cheryl Beattie has been appointed Head of Sales for Middle East and Africa at Allianz Worldwide Care. She has a wealth of experience in the medical insurance industry and has a background in customer service and financial services.
 
   Ms Beattie first joined Allianz Worldwide Care two years ago as Head of Sales and Distribution for the Middle East, a role which has now been expanded to include responsibility for Africa. 
 
   She is based in the company’s regional hub in Dubai, where she herself has been based for some time.
 
   Before joining Allianz Worldwide Care, she spent 10 years based in Dubai working with Bupa Global, where her main focus was developing a sales and distribution strategy for the Middle East region as well as establishing a new regional sales and relationship management team for the market. 
 
   Prior to this, she spent over seven years’ with GE Capital, focusing on Sales and Relationship Management within the Financial Sector.

 
AGCS appoints Regional Head of Engineering
Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), Allianz Group’s dedicated carrier for corporate & specialty insurance business, has appointed Mr Paul Smith as Regional Unit London (RUL) Head of Engineering. 
 
   In this new role, Mr Smith will be responsible for the Engineering portfolio in the UK, Ireland, Dubai, Russia, the Nordic Region, Australia and New Zealand. 
 
   He succeeds Mr Tim Cook who, as announced earlier this year, relocated from London to New York to become the new AGCS Head of Engineering, North America.
 
   Based in London, he will report regionally to Mr Carsten Scheffel, AGCS Board Member and Chief Regions & Markets Officer for RUL, locally to Mr Brian Kirwan, UK CEO, AGCS and with a reporting line into Mr Chris van Gend, Global Head of Engineering.  Mr Smith joined Allianz in 2001 and has filled multiple roles within the Engineering team. 
 
   Prior to this appointment, he served as a Regional Practice Leader for Construction All-Risks and Inherent Defects Insurance (IDI), playing a key role in the creation and development of AGCS’ IDI proposition. 
 
   He began his career as an underwriter for Commercial Union and then gained further experience working for a variety of organisations, including Guardian Royal Exchange and AXA in London.

 
Egypt: EFSA appoints acting head as Chairman ends tenure
Mr Mohamed Omran has been appointed as acting Chairman at the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (EFSA), following the stepping down of EFSA’s Chairman Sherif Samy in August.
 
   His appointment is pending the adoption of the procedures prescribed by the Constitution after the commencement of the session of the House of Representatives.
 
   Mr Samy ended his four-year term at the Authority where he oversaw non-banking financial services, including capital market, insurance, private pension funds, mortgage, financial leasing, factoring and microfinance.
 
   As EFSA Chairman, Mr Samy also headed the Financial Services Institute, the Egyptian Institute of Directors, the Auditors Oversight Board, the Microfinance Regulation Unit for NGOs, the High Committee for Accounting & Audit Standards, in addition to being a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Anti-Money Laundering Unit.
 
   Mr Omran previously assumed the chairmanship of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) for two tenures from 21 September 2011 to 6 August 2017. He served as Vice President of the Holding Insurance Company for Operations from October 2010 until September 2011. He also worked as professor of finance at the Faculty of Management and Technology of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, & Maritime Transport, and Vice President of the EGX for four years between 2006 and 2010. 

 
Egypt: New IFE head elected
Mr Alaa El Zoheiry, Managing Director of the Arab Misr Insurance Group | gig, has been elected as Chairman of the Insurance Federation of Egypt (IFE) in an election held in mid-August.
 
   He beat Dr Adel Moussa, Chairman and Managing Director of Misr Insurance, to the seat. The election, originally expected to be a three-way contest, turned out to be a two-way fight after the incumbent Chairman, Mr Abdul Raouf Kotb who is Managing Director of Egyptian Saudi Insurance House, withdrew from the race, reported Al Mal News.
 
   Dr Saeed Gabr, Managing Director of Suez Canal Insurance, is the Vice Chairman of the trade association by acclamation, as his was the only name submitted for the position.
Several other top industry executives were elected to the IFE board. The term of the board is four years from the date of the election of its members. Members may be re-elected for another term.
 
   Mr Kotb said that he withdrew from the election because he did not want to stand when there were more than two candidates.
 
   He served as IFE Chairman for the past 10 years. During this period, the insurance industry saw many achievements, including amendments to the insurance law that allowed the establishment of brokerage companies. The industry also saw the resumption of bancassurance, issuance of decisions by the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority to regulate microinsurance and the electronic publication of insurance documents. The Federation also organised several regional and international conferences, workshops and seminars. Mr Kotb also worked through his presidency of the Institute of Insurance to translate 21 insurance books during the period to enrich the Arab insurance portfolio.

 
Egypt: Misr promotes Executive Director from within
Misr Insurance Co, Egypt’s largest general insurer, has promoted Mrs Amany Elmahy to the position of Executive Director for Foreign Branches with effect from July 2017. She will be responsible for managing and following up all the branches of Misr Insurance in the Middle East and outside of Egypt. 
 
   Previously, she held the position of General Manager of Inward Reinsurance Department where she served for over eight years. During that period, she represented the company for three years as a board member at Arab Reinsurance Co, Lebanon. 
 
   In her new role, she will report to the Chairman and Managing Director of the company.
 
   Mrs Elmahy started her insurance career in 1991 with Egyptian Reinsurance Co (Egypt Re) as an underwriter at the Fire Reinsurance Department and subsequently promoted to become the Head of the Oil and Energy Reinsurance department.
 
   In 1998, she became the Director of the non-Arab regions. In 2001, her duties were expanded to include the Arab region.
 
   Mrs Elmahy has wide knowledge of all kinds of reinsurance, including facultative and treaty in various general branches of business, including fire, engineering, energy and other lines. 

 
Malaysia: AmMetLife Takaful appoints CEO
AmMetLife Takaful Berhad has appointed Mr Noor Azam bin Mohd Yusof as CEO, effective 1 July 2017, responsible for driving the growth of the company business in Malaysia.
 
   Prior to joining AmMetLife Takaful, Mr Noor Azam held a series of senior roles in his 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. 
 
   AmMetLife is a joint venture between Ambank Group and New York-based MetLife.

 
UAE: AXA Gulf names Chief Healthcare Officer
AXA Gulf appointed Ms Laura Gerstein as Chief Healthcare Officer, responsible for the insurer’s entire healthcare operations, including developing the company’s market share in the health insurance sector for personal and corporate clients within the Gulf region. 
 
   Previously, Ms Gerstein held the position of Head of Operations for Middle East and Africa at MetLife. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, she began her career in 1993 as a Senior Actuarial Analyst and was instrumental in a number of strategic transformations.
