Pakistan: Health insurer launches takaful window operations

Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Jun 2017

Allianz EFU Health Insurance, the first specialised health insurer in Pakistan, has introduced takaful window operations.

The takaful window was licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), which oversees the insurance sector.

Allianz EFU window takaful operations will be available to both corporate and individual health takaful customers, reported the Pakistan Observer.

The insurer’s health takaful business offers Shariah-compliant comprehensive medical products. The products’ salient features include: hospital care which covers hospitalisation expenses due to sickness or injury; major medical care which enhances the limits of hospital care to cater for costly medical treatment like major surgeries and prolonged hospitalisation; maternity care which covers the expenses related to childbirth; and outpatient care which covers medical expenses for illnesses that usually do not require hospitalisation.

Allianz EFU, through its takaful window, aims to provide the much-needed impetus for health takaful coverage of all segments of the population across Pakistan. M
