Mr Mehdi Tazi, the former CEO of one of Morocco’s largest insurers, Saham Assurance, has become a majority shareholder of Belassur, one of the country’s 10 biggest insurance brokers.

Mr Mohamed Belmkadem, CEO of Belassur and founder of the firm, remains a shareholder of Belassur, and will continue to lead the firm alongside Mr Tazi, according to a media release. The details of the deal with Mr Tazi are not disclosed.

With the entry of Mr Tazi, plans are to make Belassur a leading player in Morocco and in international markets in the insurance and reinsurance brokerage sectors.

Mr Tazi left Saham Assurance last January. He told the local media then that he was eyeing new challenges. He had said then: “I spent 12 years in this group. At 40, it’s time for me to make a (new) start for myself.”

Mr Tazi joined the Saham financial services group in 2005. In 2011, he was appointed Deputy CEO of CNIA Saada, which later became Saham Assurance Morocco. In May 2014, he became CEO of Saham Assurance. M
