Source: Middle East Insurance Review | Jun 2017

Road fatalities impose a daily loss of IRR320 billion (US$9.9 million) on Iran’s economy, amounting to around 8% of the country’s GDP for the whole year.

With regard to road safety, Iran is ranked second lowest among 190 countries globally, according to the Research Centre of Central Insurance of Iran. The only country scoring below Iran in these rankings is Sierra Leone in West Africa, reported Financial Tribune.

Road accidents are the second-leading cause of death in Iran after cardiovascular diseases. Motor accidents annually claim the lives of 28,000 people and injure or disable 300,000 more in the country. M
